Week 7 - Lighting and Cameras
Week 7 - Lighting and Cameras
What Have I Learned This Week?
Lighting - A Range Of Light Tools
Ambient - "Indirect Light" bounced off or transmitted through objects in the scene. Can illuminate areas that are not directly lit from another light source.
Spot - Spot Lights can be controlled to illuminate and aim the light at a specific target/point.
Point - 'Lightbulb'. Creates Light in all directions from a point.
Area - Used to simulate reflections of Windows. Produce high-quality light and shadow at the cost of longer render time.
Volume - Creates a visual representation of its lighting within the space which it is bound.
Directional - Shines light evenly in one direction. Can only be adjusted with rotation. Simulates the Sun.
Cameras
As I am only working on static models, I can create a Simple camera and adjust its position to face the static model, using the lock tool to keep it in place and changing perspectives with the 'spacebar' to the camera view. Other cameras like the Camera and Aim or the Camera, Aim and Up are used for Complex Animations that are more mobile.
Our task for the week was to practise lighting and creating Renders using Arnold Renderer. I changed the texture of the Bust to a Standard AI Surface which could create a greater reflection in the Renders.
Lighting was created by the following reference for Portrait Lighting.
1 Spotlight
1 Directional Light
1 Point Light
1 Area Light
2 Area Lights
2 Area Lights 1 Spotlight
1 Direction Light 1 Spotlight
2 Point Lights
1 Area Light (Arnold)
1 Spotlight 1 Point Light
When I use Arnold Renderer again I will make sure to adjust settings such as the resolution to create greater renders as my pc can handle a lot more demanding settings. Also, I need to experiment more with the lighting settings with the Light Tool such as increasing intensity and changing multiple directions and rotations.
